One thing I learned in Berlin is how to make the famous “Bouletten”. Bouletten are meatballs from Berlin and Berlin is famous for them. There are various recipes around the whole city itself. Especially the encounter of different cultures in Berlin have created different recipes featuring ethnic ingredients, giving the Berlin meatballs some extra tastes from all over the world. Here is mine.
What you need:
- 1 kg grounded meat (you can use any, in this recipe I used a 50%/50% mix of chicken and turkey)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 chopped onion
- 150 g chopped walnuts
- 150 g grounded cheese
- 1 spoon salt
- 1/2 spoon pepper
- 1 spoon parsley or koriander
How you do it:
Put all ingredients in one bowl and mix them together. Rather than mixing knead them together until you get a homogeneous mass. In order to start forming the meatballs, grab a handful of the mix and form a small ball. Keep forming ball until you run out of the mix. The mix will be enough for aprox 35-40 meatballs.
You can either fry the meatballs in a pan or you can also oven them at 190º C for aprox 20-25 mins.
Serve and enjoy
(In the picture the meatballs were served with some basmati rice and some red curry)
