After a cold day outiside in the streets who does not want to heat up little bit? For that a hot dessert is just perfect. A hot poached pear in red wine will definitely heat you up. (And if not it is also a good complement for ‘cold’ desserts such as sour cream, yoghurt or vanilla ice cream.

What you need

  • 3 pears (peeled and sliced in quarters)
  • 2 cups red wine
  • 1 shot of sweet rum
  • 4 spoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Sour cream or yoghurt or vanilla ice cream

How you do it

In a pot heat up the sugar until it starts caramelising. Add the ride wine (be careful as it can splash a little. Lower the heat of the stove a little. Once the red wine starts boiling again add the pear quarters together with the vanilla and rum. Cover the pot and let the pears cook for 15-20 mins aprox.

Once the pears are done serve them with some sour cream, yoghurt or vanilla ice cream.
